Take One - Carolines Story

Margie called out, “Caroline where are you?”
No answer. Who knew that a simple game
of hide and seek would change the life of our
family forever.
As our six-year-old Caroline hid behind a bathroom bidet, her
leg became stuck between the hot water pipe and the bidet.
While trying to shake her leg loose from the trappings of the
narrow slot, the hot water pipe broke, and little Caroline, still
not able to free her leg, suffered 3rd degree burns from the
scalding hot water on 90% of her right leg.
After 6 weeks of hospitalization, 2 skin graft surgeries, a year
and a half of wearing pressure garments and repeated visits
to the Children’s Mercy Burn Clinic, Caroline is now a happy,
healthy, and vibrant 10 year old with unlimited use of both
legs.
As she got older, Caroline wanted to give back to
the hospital.  That's how we came up with the idea for Kids Helping Kids Heal.
